A Vision for Boulder, CO

I had a great day at the Boulder Walk Bike Summit! 150 Boulder County residents gathered for the day to visualize their city as even more bike/walk friendly than it currently is.  Barbara Lewis did an amazing job of facilitating the day.  Her process involved large and small group work to ultimately identify common themes that emerged from the group as a whole. There was a student illustrator and facilitator at each table for the small group work. The illustrators did a terrific job of sketching out their group's ideas.  Each group shared their visions with everyone else while I took sketch notes and listened for common themes.  As I began to draw out the group's vision on a 4'x8' board, the meeting organizers and participants came up to me periodically and asked me to add images to it. The whole process was highly collaborative, and the resulting vision is one that everyone is excited to help realize.

Facilitator Barbara Lewis kicked off the morning by helping everyone decide if they're more of a "Wilderness Chic" or a "City Dude".

Most everyone landed in between, but a bit closer to City Dude, which demonstrated how much the group had in common.

The title that emerged for the vision is "Our City in Motion".
