The Limitless Mind

I recently got to graphic record at the Nueva Innovative Learning Conference, where attendees come from all over the country to learn cutting-edge developments in k-12 education.

I loved all of the presentations I captured that day, but the one I want to share key learnings from is titled “The Limitless Mind” by author and math professor, Jo Boaler. Here are her 6 keys to brain growth:

Jo Boaler shares tips for how to achieve brain growth

  1. No matter your age, continue to learn new things. Our potential for brain growth stays with us our whole lives.

  2. Struggle is good for our brains. The brain is active when we make mistakes.

  3. What we believe about ourselves becomes our reality, and it changes how our brains operate.

  4. Fixed content blocks learning. Open up content so the brain can use multiple pathways.

  5. Flexible thinking is better than thinking fast. It’s not about knowing more, it’s about elastic thinking.

  6. Connections and collaboration make us smarter, so be open and work together.

To learn more, grab a cup of tea and enjoy this 12-minute video of Jo Boaler speaking about math anxiety and the need to shift from a performance culture to a learning culture. Or for a deeper dive, I highly recommend reading her book "The Limitless Mind".
