Form A Relationship With Mystery

One of my favorite things about being a graphic recorder is that I get a front row seat at events with amazing and inspiring speakers. Most recently, I got to listen to and capture Dr. BJ Miller's keynote: "Illness, Creativity, and the Experience of Care."

Whether you or someone close to you is struggling with an illness or not, I feel like these takeaways are too good to keep to myself.

Form a Relationship With Mystery.
Not knowing what's ahead can be really scary. But scientists are used to mystery and view it with curiosity, wonder and a sense of adventure.

Honor Intuition and Gut Feelings.
Healing is more than a healthy body, it's about being whole with spirit intact.

Grief Is Good.
Grief comes from the same place as love, so make space for it and learn from the discomfort.

Independence Is A Myth.
It's glorious that we need each other.

Appreciate What You Have While You Still Have It.

BJ Miller is a palliative care physician and author best known for his 2015 TED Talk, "What Really Matters at the End of Life". He's also a triple amputee, so I find his perspective to be particularly inspiring.
